 Unit 1: ENGLISH VERBS/ INSHINGA Z’ICYONGEREZA

INTRODUCTION

We are thrilled to inform you that this unit will give you all basic knowledge of verbs and usage of them. Are you thrilled to study English? This is right time to elevate. Do not attempt to miss any part of this unit. 

INTANGIRIRO

Twishimiye kubamenyesha ko uyu mutwe uzabaha ubumenyi bw’ingenzi  mukeneye kubyerekeye inshinga ndetse n’imikoreshereze yazo. Ese waba ushaka kwiga Icyongereza? Uyu ni wo mwanya wanyawo wo kugera ku nzozi zawe.

As there are number of action, we also have number of verbs. Nk’uko dufite ibikorwa byinshi ninako dufite inshinga nyinshi.

Examples of verbs/ Ingero z’inshinga:

To hop ® Gusimbuka

To slice (food) ® Gukata (ibiryo)

To chop ® Gutema

To split ® Kwasa

To mow ® Guconga/Kugegena (igiti)

To execute ® Gushyira mu bikorwa

To stumble ® Gusitara


TYPES OF VERBS/ AMOKO Y’INSHINGA

Elites categorized verbs into various types, which are:

·       Main verbs (Inshinga nkuru) : Regular verbs/ Inshinga z’ikurikiza

                                                        Irregular verbs/ Izidakurikiza amategeko.

Example: Puppy chews my shoes/ Akabwana kandiriye inkweto

·       Model verbs

Example: You should be baptized/ Ugomba kubatizwa.

·       Auxiliary verbs/ Inshinga mfasha

Example: Did he upset you? Ese yarakubabaje?

·       Phrasal verbs:

Example: APR’s march was called of/ Umukino wa APR warasubitswe.

We shall explore more about each type in the next units, but today allow us to focus on regular verbs & irregular verbs (Main verbs).

IRREGULAR VERBS


These are all verbs which do not follow the rules of –ed, they change accordingly/ Izi ni inshinga zidakurikiza amategeko, zihinduka uko zishakiye.

Examples:

Write Wrote Written

In fact, these verbs above do not have any similarities, they changed accordingly.
